Accessibility at the Lavender Line

We Want Everyone to Enjoy Their Visit

At the Lavender Line, we are committed to making every visitor feel welcome. As a heritage railway, however, our station and rolling stock were built in a very different era and unfortunately this means we are unable to offer the same level of accessibility as a modern railway.

We believe it is important to be open about what we can and cannot provide, so that visitors can plan their visit with confidence.

What We Can Offer

We have a number of facilities available to make your visit as comfortable as possible:

• Accessible (disabled) toilet facilities.

• Step-free access to our tearoom via a ramp.

• Seating is available in and around the station.

• Our volunteers are always happy to help wherever it is safe and practical to do so.

Train Accessibility

Unfortunately, our heritage coaches are not wheelchair accessible.

The carriages were built many decades ago and feature:

• Narrow doorways.

• Steps to board the train.

• Limited internal space.

• No designated wheelchair spaces.

As a result, it is not possible for passengers to remain in a wheelchair while travelling on our trains.

Visitors who are able to transfer from a wheelchair may find boarding possible in some circumstances, but this will depend on the individual's mobility and the type of train operating on the day. Our volunteers will always do their best to assist where it is safe to do so.
